Department of Orthopaedics & Traumatology

The Department of Orthopaedics & Traumatology at Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital is a vital specialized unit delivering comprehensive musculoskeletal care, trauma management, and academic training in Old Dhaka.

Mitford Hospital traces its origins to an endowment by British official Sir Robert Mitford and officially opened on May 1, 1858. Originally operating as a general surgical discipline, trauma and orthopaedic care evolved alongside the institution's transition into a full-fledged medical school (1875) and eventually Sir Salimullah Medical College in 1972. Today, the department stands as a cornerstone for emergency bone-joint care and advanced orthopaedic education along with post-graduation courses which are accredited by BCPS.
